National university commission Nigeria lifted ban on online educational program to conventional universities in the country

The National University Commission (NUC) has opened up that they are developing a good assurance protocol for open and distance learning education in Nigeria, declaring the readiness of the commission to release the band on distance learning in Nigerian universies.

executive secretary of national university commission, professor abubakar rasheed made this known in Abuja on monday while speaking at the two day retreat, organise for all vice chancellor of nigerian universities as a way of sustaining the periodic reviews of challenge facing higher education.

He said the protocol are been developed buy a team of expert, when this protocol is fully completed we enable the commission to properly regulate the open and distance learning in Nigeria university when the ban is lifted.

Abubakar, therefore urge the conventional university in the country to raise their effort at introducing open and distance learning section in order to expand access to higher education in Nigeria.

he further said we want to encourage our conventional universities to introduce open and distance learning sections. we are working on that so that we can have quality distance learning education he said.

He noted that the high numbers of applicant for universities education annually couple with the population explosion, open and distance learning for the future for generations in Nigeria. he however explain that the commission will not allow 100% online distance learning programs so as to give room for fraudulent individuals to make things difficult for university education in the country.

He said that open and distance learning will be complemented with face to face interaction in order to ensure the quality is of the product of the system.

national university commission boss added that the commission is reengineering the university’s curriculum in response to the need of the nation.

Abubakar noted that for successful tetiarie education deliveries in the country both private and public universities will have to come together as one and reinvent themselves in order to progress.

why stressing the need for a continuous reviews of tertiary education Abubakar said our system is growing with over university with about 2 million student enrollment and over 60000 academic in the system we have expanded system that we need to become more regular with our review.

Presently we has not offered any ranking of university official ranking of world universities will be released next year when all the accreditation might have been done.

He further aurge all the universities in nigeria that they should come up with the new programs saying that the commission is fully ready to partner hand in hand with them in order to move the nation education system forward.
