Flood: Governor Zulum Moves to End Flood/Erosion in Lassa Town

Borno State Governor, Prof. Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum mni in his resolution to end Flood/ Erosion in flood prone communities has ordered the construction of drainage networks systems across Lassa Town and a Mega Retaining Walls along Lassa River Shores.

As part of the Governor Zulum’s commitment to transform Borno State and to protect the lives and properties of his citizenry, the Zulum led administration has taken proactive measures to reinvigorate flood control in the State to further avert occurring damages due to flood.

Earlier, The Borno Governor has directed the Borno State Ministry of Environment to construct drainage networks systems across Lassa Town and a Mega retaining walls along the Lassa River shores to prevent possible flooding of surrounding communities. These was to ensure the safety of the people of Lassa Town from the aged deadly perennial flood due to lack of good drainage networks and as well the river overflow.

During project inspection tour to Lassa Town by the Borno Commissioner for Environment, the District Head of Lassa disclosed that, the Project is indeed first of its kind in Lassa Town. Stressing that, the people of Lassa have been saved of the aged perennial nightmare of flood and wishes to express their gratitude to the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Engr. Babagana Umara Zulum mni for the quick intervention as rainy season is set to commence soon. “The People of Lassa Town are indebted to Governor Zulum” he added.

The Borno Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Wanori while assessing the level and quality of the work was delighted with the level and quality of the overall project. The Retaining Wall is about 500mm thick and has a good alignment as witnessed. The Hon. Commissioner also thanked and commended the efforts of the Executive Governor of Borno State Prof. Engr Babagana Umara Zulum mni for saving the lives of the good people of Borno State.

Conducting round the Hon. Commissioner, The Site Coordinating Engr., Engr. Chris Wakawa assured the completion of the Project in the next two weeks as level of attainment is 80%.
