Resumption of Flight Operation: sen Bassey Albert makes case for ibom international airport reopening

The Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, Senator Bassey Albert, today, Tuesday, June 8, 2020 on behalf of the Akwa Ibom State Caucus in the Senate drew the attention of the Senate to the urgent need to include Ibom International Airport in the list of airports to be opened on June 21.

During his presentation, he stressed the need to reopen the airport with currently flies 105 times a week in addition to the newly acquired CRJ 900 by the State Govt to cover additional routes across the country. He said Ibom Air being a hub in the region covering Aba, Umuahia, Port Harcourt,, Calabar, Arochukwu, among others, if not reopened will deprive the people of this region socio- economic benefits at this critical time .

The Senate has directed the Chairman Committee on Aviation to immediately liaise with the Aviation Authorities to ensure that the Ibom International airport is among the airports to be opened on Jun 21.

Senator Albert thanked the Senate for this quick intervention thereby giving the people of Akwa Ibom a sense of belonging .
