Akwa Ibom State Govt sealed off Christ Embassy Church for attacking COVID-19 Monitoring Team

Akwa Ibom State Government has sealed off the Nung Akpa Ime Branch of Christ Embassy Church on House of Assembly Road in Uyo over attack by members of the church on COVID-19 Monitoring Team.

Report says trouble started when some men prevented the team from gaining access into the church premises to ascertain level of compliance on the Coronavirus preventive measures by worshippers.

At about 11 o’clock this morning when the Prince Enobong Uwah-led Monitoring Committee for Uyo Capital City arrived the Church they were said to have met resistance by more six able bodied men who blocked the access gate, which was also locked with padlock, asking the monitoring team to leave as they would not allowed entry.

The Secretary to the Akwa Ibom State Government and Chairman of COVID-19 Management Committee, Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem in a statement issued today said “in response to this act of lawlessness by that church and in order to avoid the risk of community transmission of COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom State, the Christ Embassy Church building and premises are hereby sealed up with immediate effect till further notice.

The statement said “the suspected Pastors and relevant members of the church will be made to face the wrath of the law.”
