EPL Final day Review: Manchester United and Chelsea qualify for the UEFA Champions League at the detriment of Leicester.

 

Liverpool had already won the league long ago but there were still a lot to be played for on the final day of the EPL 2019/20 Season. Chelsea, United and Leicester were in the battle for The third and fourth spot while they were two relegation spot still left to be decided.

The 2019/20 EPL calendar ended on Sunday in a breathtaking manner. All matches were played at various stadias in England at the same time to even further heighten the tension, with all teams who still have something to play for, needing to be at their best.

Chelsea Triumph-

Chelsea and Manchester United confirm their spots in next years UCL competition with a 2-nil victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers and away to Leicester respectively.

Chelsea who sat in fourth before Sunday needed nothing but a victory against Wolves to confirm their spot the next year’s UCL competition did so with An Amazing Mason Mount free kick in the 45+1 minute and the ever scoring Olivier Giroud added another four minutes later(45+5) to put Chelsea on the path to qualification. The second half was well managed by Chelsea despite Wolves bringing on Adama Traore. Wolves needed a victory to qualify for the Europa league but a loss settles them at Seventh. They will now hope Chelsea Defeats Arsenal in the FA cup final next month to stand a chance of qualifying for the Europa league next season.

Manchester United Victorious over Leicester-

After spending 30 days in the top four, Leicester City lost completely on the final day.

Manchester United needed at least a point to qualify while Leicester needed a victory( knowing that Chelsea were to 2-nil up at Half time to Wolves) to qualify for the UCL.

The first half was goalless at the King Power Stadium with Leicester having chances after chances but couldn’t find a way to get passed David de Gea and their day was summed up by late dismal show when Johnny Evans and Wes Morgan teamed up to bring down Anthony Martial in the penalty area granting United it’s 14th spot kick of the season, the highest for any team in the history of the League.

Bruno Fernandes stepped up to convert the 71st minute penalty in his usual hopping pattern sending Schmeichel the wrong way but United the right way towards Qualification.

Leicester lost Evans to a red card for a tired lunge on Scott McTominay thereby shrinking any chance of a comeback.

The match took a really surprising turn for some United fans in the stoppage time when substitute Lingard tackled Leicester keeper, Schmiechel of the ball to slot in his first league goal since December 2019 in the 98th minute.

As at January 1st United lost 2-nil to Arsenal and were fifth, 14 points and 20 goals of Leicester in Second spot.

The fact that United Finished above Chelsea and Leicester City has shown their improvement in 2020. One form they’ll look to take to next year’s Champions League competition.
